Re: Auslogics defrag I used to have that installed on my desktop but it never made it to the laptop. I know it wasn't this slow before the update, cos I know I haven't been. The notebook had been in heavy daily use during the period when it was updated, which was probably well over a year. are you sure it wasn't slow before the update, maybe due to the hard-drive starting to go or something?) But if the system was idle for a year it may have HW problems that maybe you didn't notice prior to update? (i.e. I also wasn't sure if you meant the system had been unused for a year, or was used but wasn't updated. Maybe, hopefully the problem is an "installing SP1" thing and not a "being at SP1" thing? Might be worth backing up important stuff and trying a fresh install with an SP1 ISO if possible. It might be worth having Resource Manager sitting open for a while and just watching where "the action" seems to be when you do stuff, but that's likely a very long and deep hole. Molo (as usual) is right, something bad is going on and finding out what is non-trivial. Defrag can't hurt sure, but it's not going to cause (or fix) the behaviour being described. There is no way that a fragmented hard drive or having a few extra Gbs of stuff is going to cause the problems the OP is describing. I could go back to a pre-update restore point, or (probably better) restore a system image I took immediately pre-update. But it's hard to determine what if any solution there is.Īs per Microsoft, I ran the Troubleshooter and it found nothing other than a number of programs that I am intentionally running at startup and that were also running pre update.Īre there any known potential problems with sp1 that I should be looking for? Rebooting helps marginally, but not for long.īased on searches, this is not an uncommon complaint. Opening an Explorer window can take forever with a slow green progress bar as it searches for the drives. and is now at the point where I end up double-clicking things because of the apparent lack of response to the first click. Since then the thing has been running slower, possibly getting worse over time. I'm thinking I should have left well enough alone. A few weeks ago I ran Windows Update on my Windows 7 32-bit notebook for the first time in well over a year.
